From Poverty to Prosperity
A podcast on Redefining Wealth and Opportunity in America
From Poverty to Prosperity is a podcast about what keeps people in poverty in America, and what it takes to break free. Hosted by Jason Janz, CEO of Denver-based nonprofit CrossPurpose, and Amy Hulst, each episode brings together nonprofit leaders, researchers, policymakers, and, most importantly, people with real stories of their own experiences in poverty.
Together, they dig into what it actually takes to reach the American dream: from meeting basic needs, to gaining the skills for a meaningful career, to building lasting generational wealth. Episodes cover topics like housing, employment, affordability, the social safety net—and pulls back the curtain on public and private drivers of poverty itself.
This isn’t a mystery we can’t solve, and there’s real progress being made. From Poverty to Prosperity highlights the practical solutions driving that progress, and the people doing the work to make it happen.

Meet your hosts
Jason Janz
Hi, I’m Jason. Having grown up in poverty, I know how complex systems can make it harder for people to build the lives they want for themselves and their families.
My wife and I founded CrossPurpose in Denver 14 years ago to walk alongside people on their journey from poverty to prosperity—connecting them with meaningful opportunities and relationships along the way.
I’m hosting this podcast to bring together people with lived experiences and leading thinkers to explore what it truly takes for individuals, families, and communities to flourish in America.
Amy Hulst
Hi, I’m Amy. My work has taken me around the world and, ultimately, home to Denver working alongside communities navigating poverty, displacement, and what it means to belong.
Those experiences have shaped how I see people, systems, opportunity, and the stories we tell about one another.
I’m co-hosting this podcast to bring together the grassroots and the grasstops, and the lived experiences of both, for conversations on how we think about our most pressing challenges and help us imagine and build better realities for the people and places we care about most.
