Craig Hospital, a world-renowned premier center for specialty neurorehabilitation and research for people with spinal injury and brain injury, joined the CrossPurpose employer network in the fall of 2023. The decision to become employer partners arose when their CEO and CNO (Chief Nursing Officer) were introduced to CrossPurpose and shared their enthusiasm with Susi Szaltzer, a healthcare recruiter. The excitement stemmed from having a new pool of CNA candidates who could get exposure to the opportunities Craig has to offer.
Susi comments that CrossPurpose alumni’s energy levels and desire to enter the workforce and improve their lives set them apart from others. CrossPurpose Leaders and alumni have a passion for continuing to learn and grow. Susi also notes that the CNA training that CrossPurpose alumni receive through our training partner, South Denver School of Nursing, is a great benefit as well.
Although all the CrossPurpose graduates who are working at Craig Hospital are doing well, Susi notes Armilanie as one who has made a significant impact. Armilanie credits her impact to the hands-on training, inpatient care techniques, and emphasis on professionalism and communication she received through CrossPurpose. Each skill has been especially important while interacting with both her coworkers and her patients.
Armilanie fully expected the fast-paced and physically demanding environment, but she did not expect the emotional fulfillment she has received. She notes that what she does daily is “so much more than just tasks, it is about building trust and showing compassion every day.” The most rewarding part of her job as a CNA is helping patients feel comfortable, cared for, and respected, making a difference in their lives.
Craig provides a structured orientation, as well as a shadowing period for new employees to help with adjusting to the pace and expectations of their new jobs. Armilanie notes that she also received a mentor to guide her through her first few weeks, who gave her helpful tips for managing time and staying organized. Armilanie also receives great support from her team. Her supervisor checks in regularly and encourages her in a high-pressure environment.
The partnership between Craig Hospital and CrossPurpose has proven to be mutually beneficial, connecting passionate, well-trained graduates with meaningful careers. Armilanie’s success is a testament to the impact of quality training, mentorship, and a supportive work environment, showing how compassion and dedication can truly transform lives.
